Reservations being taken for free Christmas meals

IRON MOUNTAIN — Two churches in the region are finalizing preparations for free dinners on Christmas day.

First Presbyterian Church of Kingsford will take reservations through Saturday for its annual Christmas Day ham dinner, set for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the church at 395 Hamilton Ave. in Kingsford.

Meal delivery is available for those who are homebound, and rides will be provided to anyone who wants to share in the meal but lacks transportation.

There is no cost for the meal, but reservations are required and can be made by calling the church office at 906-774-4211.

Anyone who would like to volunteer to help with the dinner should call the church office. They will need help with cooking, serving, meal delivery and clean-up.

Members and friends of First Baptist Church of Iron River also will offer their annual Christmas Day meal Monday.

They will serve those wishing to dine in or pick up from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the church at 800 Selden Road in Iron River. Volunteers will start delivering meals at 10:30 a.m. for those unable to attend.

The meal will featuring turkey with all the trimmings, including mashed potatoes, gravy, dressing, green beans, cranberry sauce, dinner roll and pumpkin pie.

Reservations or delivery requests can be made by calling 906-265-4334. Callers should say how many meals will be needed and give their name, address and phone number to help volunteer drivers.

The dinner is free, but donations will be accepted.
