Storm start with 3-2 wrestling mark
CRIVITZ, Wis. — Northwoods Storm posted a 3-2 record Saturday in the season-opening Crivitz Invitational high school wrestling tournament.
The Florence-Niagara co-op defeated Marinette 28-24, Crivitz 36-18 and Hortonville 24-24 (criteria). The Storm fell to Oshkosh West 66-29 and Southern Door 55-18.
Tristen Mascarette (126 pounds) led the Storm’s seven wrestlers with a 5-0 mark, followed by Josh Broullire (120), Joe Glime (195) and Shamus McLain (152-160) at 4-1; Andy Anderson, 182, 3-2; Denny Vassar (160), 1-3, and Pear Budzinski (170), 0-5.
“I am very impressed how well the boys wrestled,” said Coach Shane McLain. “They’re improving very fast every match. I could see them getting better.
“We wrestled some tough schools. We did very well competing with only seven wrestlers.”
Florence will join Iron Mountain, Kingsford and West Iron County in the Wabeno Invitational on Saturday. The Flivvers, under new coach Darren Groleau, start the season Wednesday at Manistique.
