Pinecrest hosts annual prom

Marvin Gagnon was crowned the king and Candice Shepley was crowned the queen at the Pinecrest Medical Care Facility prom on June 13.

POWERS — Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers celebrated its annual prom on June 13.

Ladies that reside at Pinecrest were busy a couple weeks prior trying on different dresses to choose their favorite one for event.

The gentlemen also had suit coats to model.

The day before the festivities, decorating began. Tablecloths were pressed for the tables. Sue Gearhart, one of Pinecrest nurses aides, brought in the decorations. Volunteers and activity staff filled the balloons for the arch.

After much anticipation from the residents, the big day finally arrived. Students from Paul Mitchell School arrived at Pinecrest at 9 a.m. to fix residents’ hair, put makeup on the ladies, and paint their nails. Staff from all over the building, as well as volunteers, assisted the residents either with getting ready for the prom or getting to the dance.

Jim Clement provided the evening entertainment, as some of the residents sang along to his tunes.

A special punch, as well as tiramisu, strawberries, mini cheesecakes, and mini cream puffs were served.

“Residents enjoy their prom so much as you could see it in every smiling face , especially when they were told how beautiful or handsome they look,” said Cheryl Rochon, activities director.

Pinecrest expressed appreciation to all the families, the Paul Mitchell School in Escanaba, staff from all the departments, volunteers, and friends that have helped with another successful prom.
