KINGSFORD — The Golden K Club of Dickinson County is actively seeking new members.
The service club, made up of senior volunteers 55 and older, focuses on the youth within the Tri-County area that have special needs. They host three parties each year for the children. In December, a Christmas party brings the youth together for a visit from Santa, entertainment, lunch and a small gift. A Valentine’s Party is planned in February that provides a sweet treat, entertainment and a craft table. The picnic at City Park in May provides kids with the chance to enjoy the playground, games, face painting, entertainment and lunch. More than 100 students and helpers attend each event. Members are delighted to see the smiles of the children at each of the gatherings.
In addition, the club presents at least one high school scholarship each year to a qualified student attending Bay College. This is available through the GK Scholarship Fund of the Dickinson Area Community Foundation.
Golden K hosts monthly bingo at two area nursing homes. Both the residents and members look forward to these games and the camaraderie.
Several local charities benefit by the Golden K donations each year. They acknowledge the contributions of other non-profits that help to enrich the area.

Golden K members Dave Sielaff, Brett Calcari and Jim Menza tend the grills at the recent picnic at the City Park in Iron Mountain.
Members hosts an annual community fundraising event to help the club continue to do volunteer services. The Peanut Fundraiser takes place on Labor Day weekend, with members volunteering time at entrances of local stores.
Club members always look forward to the fellowship and their volunteer opportunities.
Meetings are 10 to 11 a.m. every Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford, which includes a program with a guest speaker or entertainment.
Only board members chair the meetings, so those not comfortable in front of a group aren’t required to join the board.
Attendance is not mandatory, but those who regularly attend look forward to the meetings each week.

Golden K members Candy Buchcuski and Kathy Jo Anderson get ready for a weekly meeting.
GK welcomes anyone to join them to see what they’re about. Come share a cup of coffee and a doughnut.
