Cake decorating classes offered at Marinette campus

MARINETTE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin – Marinette Continuing Education Department will offer a two-night cake decorating class with Marissa Axtell from Marissa’s Country Kitchen.

For those interested in cake decorating and looking to improve their skills, Axtell will teach how to stack, frost and decorate cakes and cupcakes.

Participants will be required to bring an unfrosted, 8-inch cake or 12 unfrosted cupcakes to the second class. The class is $39 and will be 6 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 9 and 16, in the UW-Marinette cafeteria. To register, call 920-465-2642 or go to marinette.uwc.edu/ce.

The first class will be all about frosting. Learn how to make her popular frosting, and the techniques of frosting cakes and cupcakes.

At the second class, participants will put those skills to the test when they frost their cake/cupcakes. They also will learn how to make decorations, and will leave with a finished product.

Axtell’s love of baking started as a hobby. Friends and family started to take notice as they enjoyed the fruits of her labor, and began to make requests for her baking. The requests continued and evolved into her starting her business, Marissa’s Country Kitchen. Her customers delight in her ability to combine both classic and unexpected flavors.

Axtell has catered events from birthdays, graduation and retirement parties, and weddings. Her goal when creating for her customer is to understand the event and what the customer is looking for, she said.
