Bay College’s West Campus adds fitness, yoga classes

IRON MOUNTAIN — Bay College West has added fitness and yoga classes to the calendar.

The fitness class, 30-Minute Tabata Blast, will be offered from 11:15 to 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, April 2. These classes are free and open to everyone.

Mindful Yoga will be offered from 11 a.m. to noon March 21, April 18 and May 2. Yoga is free to Bay College students and $10 for community members and faculty/staff.

Tabata is a form of interval training, where each exercise set is 4 minutes long, made up of exercise for 20 seconds, rest for 10 seconds, and repeat for eight rounds. The 30-Minute Tabata Blast class will only include body weight exercises; no equipment is needed. Modifications will be shown for each exercise to make the exercise high or low impact. All fitness levels are welcome.

Yoga will incorporate a blend of mindful movement, breath work, and somatic awareness to help gain control over a busy mind and life. Become fully present and destress in an hour long class. No yoga experience is necessary.

“I am so excited that we have added wellness activities to our calendar for our students and community members,” said Laura Moloney, director of student services at West Campus.

Early registration is encouraged and can be done online at www.baycollege.edu/mtec or by filling out a form at the West Campus administration office. Registration will be open and available at the start of the class.
