Fiber art exhibit in Hancock

HANCOCK — “Technique Magnifique” is an invitational exhibition of fiber art made by local and regional artists through Saturday in the Kerredge Gallery of the Copper Country Community Arts Center, 126 Quincy St. in Hancock.

Hannah Smith, intern and graduating senior from Finlandia University’s International School of Art and Design, curated this exhibition. She sought out work that was beyond the ordinary and demonstrated a particular technique.

Artists include Lois Anderson, Lynn Anderson, Cynthia Cote, Phyllis Fredendall, John Gale, Carol Grafford and friends, Susan Hooker, Joyce Koskenmaki, Stella Larkin, Mary Loukus, Emma Mackey, Jenny Sawle Johannsen, Anita Sharkus, Alexis Wakeham, and Becky Weeks.

The exhibition includes hand-woven wearable items, mixed-media sculpture, wall hangings, costumes, jewelry, accessories, and other functional items. Mediums include examples of surface design, beadwork, sequins, embroidery, felted wool, assemblage, and various weaving techniques.
