Historic building walk Thursday in Florence

FLORENCE, Wis. — The last scheduled guided walk this summer of buildings featured in the Florence County Historical Society Walking Tour booklet will take place at 5 p.m. Thursday.

The walk will start at the museum, 201 Florence Ave., across U.S. 2 from Steamin’ Joe’s Coffee Shop.

This almost 2-mile walk is expected to take almost two hours. A midway rest and refreshment stop at the Encore on Central, hosted by Rachel and Don Egelseer, will feature wine and cheese and a brief interior tour of the Encore.

In case of rain, the walk will be cancelled.

The tour booklet, which also offers a map for a self-guided walk, is available for $5 at the museum, open from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and at the Wild Rivers Interpretive Center.

Time still remains to purchase tickets for the historical society’s annual fundraising raffle. Winners will be drawn Sept. 6 and do not need to be present. To obtain tickets, contact a member or stop in at the museum for chances to win a queen-size quilt, handcrafted rug, dream catcher or a Maxsell’s gift certificate.
