Program on bees planned Monday
CRYSTAL FALLS — “The Wonderful World of Bees” will be the focus of Senior Adult Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp in Crystal Falls.
Self-taught beekeeper Bernie Driggs of Sagola will be the featured speaker.
“Sometime in the late ’70s, I wanted to make mead (honey wine),” Driggs said, “So I bought what I needed to build a hive, ordered a package of bees and I was a beekeeper, or so I thought.”
The novice beekeeper read a lot, learned from his mistakes and in a few years had honey to bottle. Today, as a member of Northwoods Beekeepers of Iron Mountain, Driggs is dedicated to educating the public on the importance of the honeybee.
According to Driggs, the program also will include a brief history of the honeybee, a look at a year of a beekeeper, and an introduction to beeswax “from the hive to the candle.”
Lunch reservations can be made by calling the camp office at 906-214-2267 by Friday.
A $10 donation is requested.
