Lumberjack Steam Train is open for the summer

LAONA, Wis. — The Lumberjack Steam Train in Laona, Wis., once again is running the rails taking visitors to the Camp 5 Museum Complex.

The vintage steam engine train will depart the Laona Depot at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and is closed Sunday and Monday.

Visitors to Camp 5 will enjoy the Logging Museum, with a working blacksmith shop, the Petting Zoo, the authentic slaughter house, the renovated Nature Center, the Choo Choo Hut Restaurant, the Green Treasure Forest Tour and the Cracker Barrel Gift and Ice Cream Shop. There also is the pleasant and informative ecology walk. A visit to the Camp 5 Museum Complex is an educational and enjoyable time for people of all ages.

The Lumberjack Steam Train is a 1916 Vulcan steam engine that actually was used to haul logs to the Connor Sawmill in the early days of Northwoods logging. Passengers ride in period passenger cars and cabooses, giving them an idea of what transportation was like for their ancestors. All will enjoy the sights and sounds of their ride on the Lumberjack Steam Train as well as the visit to the Camp 5 Museum Complex.

It should be noted that ticket sales will be limited to provide for social distancing. There is ample room in the passenger cars for distance between family groups.Visitors can wear a mask if they want.

Tickets also can be purchased at the window, but those using this method should plan on arriving 15 minutes early.
