Emily Cummings, middle grades/adolescent literary specialist at the Dickinson County Library, prepares treat bags to hand out at the library’s Halloween CAR-nival event on Friday at the Solomonson Branch in Norway and Saturday, Oct. 31, at the main library in Iron Mountain.

IRON MOUNTAIN — Get ready to decorate your vehicle in spooky attire for drive-through trick-or-treating at the Dickinson County Library’s Halloween CAR-nival on from 5 to 6 p.m. Friday at the Solomonson Branch in Norway and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31 at the main library in Iron Mountain.

Attendees can drive their decorated vehicle in front of the library building and park in the designated area. People either can roll down a window or pop the trunk and library staff will drop in a treat bag of goodies that includes a free book and candy. They ask that guests do not exit their vehicle at any time. All ages are welcome.

“We typically have a Halloween Carnival each year in which children come dressed in their costumes and receive some treats,” said Emily Cummings, middle grades/adolescent literary specialist at the Dickinson County Library. “We unfortunately can’t do that this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but we think this is a great alternative that keeps the spirit of the program alive. We can’t wait to see the creative decorations that people come up with for their vehicles.”

At the Solomonson Branch, drivers are asked to enter from Section Street, drive in front of the building and exit into the alley.

At the main library, drivers can come from East A Street onto Iron Mountain Street and park in one of the designated areas in front of the building.

While registration is not required for this event, library staff members ask that those planning to attend call the main library at 906-774-1218 so they know how many treat bags to prepare and for which age levels.
