Feeding America mobile food pantry set for Wednesday

KINGSFORD — Feeding America West Michigan is bringing a drive-through mobile food pantry to Kingsford on Wednesday.

The food distribution will start at 10 a.m. at the Ever After Event Center, 420 N. Hooper St. in Kingsford. Registration begins at 9 a.m.

Mobile food pantries are like farmers markets on wheels that provide free supplemental food to eligible households.

A household is considered eligible if it participates in any of a number of government food programs, meets low-income guidelines, or is simply in need of emergency food.

No ID or proof of eligibility is required, although a volunteer will ask a few basic questions about the customer’s address, household and eligibility at the time of registration.

One vehicle may pick up food for up to three households. FAWM requires a signed note with the same basic information for each additional household.

To get to the Event Center, organizers ask that participants take Woodward Avenue to North Boulevard, past the vocational center and straight on to East Boulevard.

Kingsford High School will be in session, and vehicles should avoid Hooper Street coming from Carpenter Avenue, Breitung Avenue or Pyle Drive.

The organizers also suggest participants have in their vehicles boxes, laundry baskets or totes for volunteers to place the food.

For any questions regarding this Mobile Food Pantry or for information on volunteering, call 906-239-6778. Participants are asked not to call the Ever After Event Center.

Feeding America West Michigan is an equal opportunity provider.
