Teagan Petschar graduates with top honors from SVSU

Teagan Petschar

University Center, Mich. — Teagan Petschar, a standout scholar from Saginaw Valley State University, has graduated summa cum laude with the Class of 2025, earning recognition for academic excellence, creativity and global engagement. She was named the English Department’s Outstanding Graduate in Literature for 2024-2025.

Petschar received the Tyner Prize for Writing Excellence in both fiction and nonfiction and was a nominee for the SVSU Literary Merit Award in 2022. Maintaining a 3.9 grade-point average, she earned multiple Presidential Academic Awards and was selected for the prestigious Roberts Gilbertson Fellowship 25th Cohort, where she was an ambassador to SVSU and traveled to Thailand and Japan in spring 2024.

Beyond the classroom, she was a Global Foundation Scholar, played on the SVSU club softball team (2021-2024) and participated in the Press Start gaming and international clubs. Her global interests led her to study abroad in the Cayman Islands in spring 2023.

This fall, she will pursue a master’s in medieval literature at Trinity College Dublin, one of Europe’s top universities.

MADISON, Wis. — Gabriel Vakharia of Niagara, Wis., was among the 101 students inducted into Phi Kappa Phi, Chapter 021 Honor Society, at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The 105th Phi Kappa Phi Induction Ceremony was April 27 in Tripp Commons. Evjue Centennial Professor Douglas McLeod was the keynote speaker on “News Coverage of Social Protest in a Polarized Political Landscape.”

Phi Kappa Phi recognizes the achievements of the most outstanding students in every school and college at UW-Madison. The UW-Madison chapter of Phi Kappa Phi was founded in 1920 and has had a continuous presence on this campus ever since.

Each fall invitations are sent to the top 10% of graduate students, the top 10% of seniors and the top 7.5% of second-semester juniors in each school and college.

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. — More than 1,800 students from Saginaw Valley State University earned a spot on the fall 2024 semester dean’s list.

Leah Winch of Iron Mountain was among those honored for academic excellence.

To be eligible for the dean’s list, a student must take at least 12 credit hours and carry a semester GPA of 3.4 or better.

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Several local students were named to the Southern New Hampshire University spring 2025 president’s list. The spring terms run from January to May.

Full-time undergraduate students who have earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.700 and higher for the reporting term are named to the president’s list. Full-time status is achieved by earning 12 credits over each 16-week term or paired eight-week terms grouped in fall, winter/spring and summer.

The students include Paul Burke of Crystal Falls, Jill Ramlow of Vulcan, Erin Towns of Kingsford, Wyatt Gibler of Kingsford, Rene Miles of Iron Mountain.

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — Jaida Maki of Niagara, Wis., received her bachelor of nursing degree in the College of Nursing at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire

Maki was named to the fall 2024 deans list.

To be eligible, a student must have a minimum semester GPA of 3.70 and completed at least 12 credits during the semester, with no incompletes and no courses below the 100 level.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Kiera Sullivan of Florence, Wis., was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2024 semester at Washington University in St. Louis. Sullivan is enrolled in the university’s Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts.

To qualify for the dean’s list in the Sam Fox School, students must earn a semester grade-point average of 3.5 or above and be enrolled in at least 14 graded units.

ALBION, Mich. — Albion College announces the fall 2024 semester dean’s list as well as those students named Albion College Fellows with a grade-point average of 3.75 or above and three consecutive semesters on the dean’s list.

Norway student Caitlyn Mohr was named to dean’s list. Mohr is majoring in art with a minor in psychology.

Iron Mountain student Ellison Powell was honored as a new Albion College Fellow. Powell is majoring in political science with a concentration in the Gerald R. Ford Institute for Leadership in Public Policy and Service and is a member of the Prentiss M. Brown Honors Program.

Powell is the child of Jeffery Powell and Shannon Powell of Iron Mountain and is a graduate of Iron Mountain High School.

MILWAUKEE — Elizabeth Early, Iron Mountain, was named to the Milwaukee School of Engineering’s Honors List for the 2024 fall semester. Early is pursuing a bachelor of science in biomedical engineering.

Students taking undergraduate courses who have earned at least 12 credits in residence at MSOE, are in good academic standing, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher are on the dean’s list. Students on that list who have maintained a 3.70 or higher receive “high honors.” Students with a term GPA of 3.20 or higher, who are not on the dean’s list, are on the honors list.

ALBION, Mich. — Kingsford student Lydia Wilson recently graduated from Albion College with a degree in psychology and a minor in philosophy.

Wilson is a resident of Kingsford and is a graduate of Kingsford High School.

ALBION, Mich. — Student Caitlyn Mohr performed this semester with the Albion College Wind Ensemble. A member of the clarinet section, Mohr was a new member of the ensemble this semester.

Mohr is majoring in art with a minor in psychology. Mohr is a resident of Norway.
