Art events slated June 16-21 at the Crystal Falls library
CRYSTAL FALLS — The Crystal Falls Community District Library will host Drawing and Painting Week June 16-21 as part of the six-week Summer Reading Program, “Color Our World.”
Along with reading books about drawing and painting, this week the babies will be making sandpaper art, toddlers will be painting with toy cars, pre-schoolers will make some dot art. Children 5-8 will learn all about painter Alma Woodsey Thomas and paint emulating her style. Children 9-12 will learn some art history and then try painting in the style of Claude Monet and Salvadore Dali.
It is not too late to sign up children up for the summer reading program. Contact Evelyn Gathu, librarian, at 906-875-3344, or by email at egathu@crystalfallslibrary.org.
Teens/adults night is at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 17. No registration is required. They will expand art and reading horizons through a color-mixing activity. Those who attend are invited to bring their favorite book from home or choose one from the library shelves. Then, using colors from that cover, they will complete a painting activity that will lead to a new book to enjoy by its cover colors.
Family night will be at 6 p.m. Friday, June 20. They will have an art and artists trivia night. All are welcome, and there is no registration required for the event. Categories include local artists, name that media, name that artist, film classics, television’s greatest hits and more. The Friends of the Library will be providing refreshments.
The library is at 237 Superior Ave. in downtown Crystal Falls.
