DCCC to present Music Under the Stars

IRON MOUNTAIN — The Dickinson County Community Chorus is preparing for the upcoming Music Under the Stars concert that will be presented at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 13, at the Lake Antoine Park Band Shell.

“We have planned an outstanding selection of music that will be exciting for singers and audience alike,” said Crystal Hogan, principal conductor. “The program will include many Broadway songs as well as patriotic and gospel selections. The songs are catchy and familiar and will invite you to hum and sing along.”

The theme this summer is “Give My Regards to Broadway: A Musical Theatre Variety Show.” Besides the chorus, various small ensembles and the children’s chorus will perform selections from the old musicals to the more current shows.

When they are not singing on stage, the children’s chorus will walk through the crowd to sell popcorn and water. The concession donations will go to the Lake Antoine Park Partnership as well as The Children’s Museum in Iron Mountain. A total of $500 in matching funds has already been donated by The Ice Cream Barn, Storheims Family Restaurant and DCCC members. They hope those attending will give generously to these worthy causes.

Hogan, will direct the summer concert, accompanied by Mary Lee and Sandy Sullivan on piano. Dawn Kranz and Jeremiah Garrigues-Cortelyou will assist with rehearsals and direct ensembles. Kranz will also conduct the children’s chorus. Instrumentalists include Josh March on bass, Jake Benz on drums and Jason Ocasio on guitar.

The chorus will also sponsor a float in the Fourth of July parade. Volunteer singers, both children and adults, from the chorus past and present are welcome to ride or walk with the DCCC float.

For information and updates, go to http://www.communitychorus.org. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be at 7:15 p.m. at Kingsford High School on Hamilton Avenue in Kingsford.

A special thank you to the First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford for use of the facilities for rehearsals. They would also like to thank the chorus sponsors. The recent donations have afforded them new risers for their performances at Lake Antoine, a sound system for the parade float and a cushion for operating expenses.
