Old Victoria celebrates Log Cabin Day
ROCKLAND, Mich. — Take a step into the past Sunday at the Old Victoria’s Log Cabin Day Heritage Celebration.
The free event from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern time celebrates Michigan’s Log Cabin Day with an open house of the restored miner’s cabins that were originally built in 1899 to house workers of the Victoria Copper Mining Company.
Visitors can hear stories of the lives of the miners and their families while touring three of the four restored hand-hewn log cabins and rebuilt sauna.
The day will feature fresh, made-from-scratch cinnamon rolls that are baked on site by volunteers in the old-fashioned wood stove.
Participants can learn how to sew on an old crank sewing machine with Sew Cranky of Hancock.
Kids of all ages are invited at 1:30 p.m. for old-fashioned games of various races and sports.
The Kivajat Dancers, a Finnish-American folk dance youth group from Hancock, will perform at 2:30 p.m.
The annual Craft Fair fundraiser is planned in Sunday, Aug. 17, at the historic site’s.
