New pediatric physician Carpenter joins DCHS

MICHAEL CARPENTER

IRON MOUNTAIN – Dickinson County Healthcare System has added Dr. Michael Carpenter in pediatrics.

Carpenter is board certified by the American Academy of Pediatricians and brings experience including serving Air Force families around the world, at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs and at Mountain View Medical Group in Mountain View, Colorado.

A native of Colorado Springs, Carpenter said he looks forward to enjoying the experience of the Upper Peninsula and getting away from the urban environment. He and his wife, Linda, have five children ages 13 to 22.

“My family loves the outdoors and what the U.P. has to offer,” he said.

“I like quiet places where I can think and communities with old-time values where people look out for each other. This area seems to offer all of those things.”

Carpenter graduated from the University of Utah, and has been serving patients at the Mountain View Medical Group. Before that, he served in the U.S. Air Force for eight years as a general pediatrician, with overseas tours in Turkey and England, and at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.

Carpenter said what he likes most about being a health care provider is serving as an education resource for children and parents.

“I come from a long line of teachers and one of my biggest goals is teaching families about their own bodies and illnesses,” he said.
