LANSING – The Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) has announced that the Michigan Strategic Fund has approved two community revitalization projects in downtown Marquette, including a new hospital that will be constructed in the heart of downtown.

The projects will generate a total capital investment of at least $190 million and create 169 new jobs as well as retain 2,300 jobs.

“This redevelopment of a former brownfield site into the home of DLP’s Marquette General Hospital will revitalize downtown Marquette, bring new jobs to area residents, and serve as a catalyst for additional growth in the community, all while meeting the health needs of Upper Peninsula residents,” said MEDC chief executive officer Steve Arwood. “We’re pleased to support the efforts of the entire community in making the project a reality.”

MSF approved $55,763,061 in local and school tax capture for the city of Marquette Brownfield Redevelopment Authority to redevelop approximately 37 acres of property in the city of Marquette.

The project will consist of demolition of existing structures on the site and construction of the new regional acute-care DLP Marquette General Hospital, an affiliate of Duke LifePoint HealthCare. The completed project will also include medical office buildings and a parking deck.

The project will generate a minimum total capital investment of $170 million and create 150 new jobs as well as retain 2,300 jobs.
