Roving kettle challenge begins for Salvation Army

IRON MOUNTAIN – The Salvation Army, serving Dickinson County and now Niagara, is doing something new this year.

In addition to the regular red kettles at the stores and around town, there is a new challenge to businesses and organizations to raise more money for the local assistance fund at Salvation Army.

Trisha Peterson is taking submissions for a business/organization to take a day and host the Salvation Army kettle.

“We have issued a challenge for small and large businesses and the one that collects the most on their day will get the traveling trophy for this year. Your name will be engraved on the traveling trophy that will be around for a number of years,” noted Peterson.

“The great part is you can start collecting money now in different ways if you like and just put it in on your day that you are hosting the Roving Kettle. We will keep track of the total collected from each day,” she added.

If you would like to take a day for your business small or large, contact Peterson at 774-5731. There are only 12 days available during the Kettle Campaign and they would like to fill every day.

The Salvation Army has expressed its appreciation for the groups who have already scheduled including the Iron Mountain YACs, Northern Michigan Bank-Iron Mountain and Kingsford, YMCA, Kingsford Self Serve Gas, First National Bank Iron Mountain-Kingsford Main Branch, Papa Murphy’s, Kiser Hydro, Classic Carpet Care & Restoration, U.P .State Credit Union, Forward Financial Niagara and Iron Mountain, Dickinson County Healthcare System, Werner Electic, WJNR/WOBE/WHTO Radio, The Creation Station, Oldenberg Group, and Erickson Jewelers.

“All of these businesses and organizations have taken a day – or even two in some cases,” Peterson said.
