Aspirus IR a ‘critical-access hospital to know’

IRON RIVER — Aspirus Iron River Hospital recently was named by Becker’s Healthcare as a 2018 “critical-access hospital to know,” a list that highlights 66 of the nation’s more than 1,300 certified critical-access hospitals.

Critical-access hospitals have 25 or fewer inpatient beds, with an annual average stay of 96 or fewer hours for acute care. These hospitals also offer 24/7 emergency care and are in remote areas.

“These recognitions are not just given to anyone — it really is a testament to Aspirus Iron River being a strong pillar in our communities,” Aspirus Iron River CEO Connie Koutouzos said.

Becker’s editors’ choices were based on awards and rankings from organizations that included iVantage Health Analytics, The Chartis Group, the National Rural Health Association, CareChex, Healthgrades and Medicare star ratings. The team also considered the hospital’s community impact and reputation for innovation.
