Talent Fund application session Thursday in IM

ESCANABA — The Going Pro Talent Fund, formerly the Skilled Trades Training Fund, will offer $27 million to Michigan businesses for training this year.

The Talent Fund began in 2013 to help companies with short-term, in-demand training and is not limited to “skilled trade” occupations.

The application period is Sept. 12 through Oct. 3 and must be secured through Michigan Works!. Individuals can receive up to $1,500 for training and up to $3,000 for apprenticeships.

In fiscal year 2018, UPWARD Talent Council Michigan Works! awarded $685,097 to 33 Upper Peninsula companies, resulting in 102 training opportunities for 198 new hires and 438 existing employees.

UPWARD Talent Council Michigan Works! will hold informational sessions across the Upper Peninsula to assist employers in accessing the Talent Funds. Companies also can learn about other services and assistance available.

The Iron Mountain session will be 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at 127 S. Stephenson Ave. To RSVP or for more information, email trainingfund@isupward.org.
