IRON MOUNTAIN — Tessa Avenue Boutique started in August 2017 as an online business, offering tops, sweaters, dresses and accessories such as scarves, necklaces and earrings.

In July, they established the physical equivalent in Iron Mountain’s Midtown Mall in response to the online shop’s success.

“We’re excited about where we’re headed,” owner Shannon Barnes said. “We’re hearing good things.”

The store takes advantage of Barnes’ education, as she has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Michigan State University and a master’s degree in business administration from Central Michigan University.

She still works full time at M.J. Electric and runs the store with her mother, Joanne, who also has a full-time job. Together they piece together outfits and tend to customers.

“We make a great team,” Barnes said, adding, “The store wouldn’t be where it is today without the help of my family and friends and I am so thankful for that.”
