Police: Florence woman on drugs when rolled car with kids inside

SHARRA HANCOCK

IRON MOUNTAIN — A Florence, Wis., woman involved in a Tuesday rollover accident in Kingsford is accused of driving under the influence of drugs with two young children in the vehicle.

Sharra Jo Hancock, 31, was arraigned in Dickinson County District Court on operating while intoxicated with an occupant younger than age 16-second or subsequent offense, a five-year felony; possession of analogues, a two-year felony; possession of marijuana-second or subsequent offense, a two-year high court misdemeanor; and operating on a suspended license, a 93-day misdemeanor.

Hancock will return to court July 5 for a preliminary examination.

Kingsford officers determined Hancock was driving on the 1100 block of Westwood Avenue on Tuesday evening when her vehicle went off the road, struck an embankment and overturned.

Hancock and her two passengers — a 1-year-old and an 8-month-old, both boys — were treated by paramedics at the accident site, according to KPS.

Hancock failed two of four field sobriety tests, spoke non-stop and reportedly admitted consuming prescription medications and marijuana earlier in the day, according to the criminal complaint.

Officers searching her found a smoking device and a canister containing suspected marijuana, as well as a yellow pill identified as methylphenidate, a stimulant.

Hancock’s driving privileges were suspended at the time, the complaint states.
