WJMN-TV Channel 3 will switch frequencies

MARQUETTE — WJMN-TV Channel 3, the CBS affiliate that services Marquette and the surrounding area, will move frequencies Friday, Nov. 30, which means those who watch TV for free with an antenna will need to go through the rescan process.

As part of the Federal Communications Commission’s spectrum repack, nearly 1,000 TV stations across the country must change frequencies between now and spring 2020 to make room for wireless broadband services.

For those who need to go through a rescan, the directions are very simple and the TV does most of the work, WJMN officials said. To rescan, select “scan” or “autotune” on the TV or converter box control menu to start the scanning process. Instructions are usually available by pressing the “set-up” or “menu” buttons on the remote control. This move is happening behind the scenes, so the channel number viewers know will not change.

TVAnswers.org also provides directions and videos for how to rescan.

This change will not affect cable or satellite subscribers.

The region could have additional frequency changes over the next two years. If so, more information will be provided as the time gets closer. For now, only WJMN-TV will be affected next week.
