Bruce Bianco Memorial Scholarship established at Iron Mountain School

BRUCE BIANCO

IRON MOUNTAIN — The Bruce Bianco Memorial Scholarship has been established at Iron Mountain High School, by the family of the late Bruce Bianco, a 1953 graduate of IMHS. The scholarship will be available beginning with the graduating Class of 2019.

Bianco, 83, passed away on Feb. 26, 2018. Bianco, a lifelong resident of Iron Mountain, was son of the late Dino and Ruth (Greene) Bianco. In addition to his parents, Bruce was also preceded in death by one son, Todd; one brother, David Bianco; and one grandson, Tony Spigarelli.

Bianco worked at Grede for 52 years as a laborer and for many years as a supervisor. He was an avid Mountaineer Athletics Booster who excelled in both academics and football for the Mountaineers in the early 1950s.

He believed athletics were very important in instilling discipline into other aspects of a person’s life. It was a common sight to see Bruce and his cronies along the north fence line rooting on his beloved Mountaineers every fall and at every home Mountaineer basketball game during the winter months.

Bianco also enjoyed weightlifting and working out at the gym most of his life. He was an early pioneer in the sport of bodybuilding and eventually turned to power lifting. He set two world bench press records for his age, first in 2006 and again in 2008.

Bianco leaves behind his wife, Evonne, seven children, many grandchildren and great grandchildren who he was so proud of for their hard work and achievements both in the classroom and on the field of play.

To be eligible for the Bruce Bianco Memorial Scholarship, applicants must be a graduating senior of Iron Mountain High School, who will be attending an accredited four-year college/university pursuing a degree in their field of choice.

Applicants must have averaged a 3.0 GPA and have participated in Mountaineer athletics all four years of high school.
