Man killed in Marinette County crash

MARINETTE, Wis. — One man is dead after the vehicle he was driving crashed into a large oak tree near Peshtigo in southern Marinette County on Sunday night.

The four-door sedan was northbound on County Trunk BB/Shore Drive in the town of Peshtigo just before 8 p.m. Sunday when the driver apparently lost control and the vehicle went off the roadway, striking the tree, according to the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver, who was alone in the vehicle, was pronounced dead of massive head and internal injuries at the crash site, the office stated in a news release.

His name was not released pending notification of family, but he was believed to be a local man in his 40s, according to the sheriff’s office. An investigation indicates speed likely was a factor in the crash, officials said.

This was Marinette County’s 10th traffic fatality in 2018.
