Seasonal road weight restrictions start Monday in Marinette County

PESHTIGO, Wis. — Effective noon on Monday, seasonal weight restrictions for spring thaw will be in effect on all Marinette County highways until lifted with the following exceptions:

— County Trunk Highway JJ from State Trunk Highway 180 to the east County/State line on the Menominee River.

— Vehicles transporting solid waste on County Trunk Highway A from the Village of Crivitz to Shaffer Road.

gross weight restrictions will be posted under Wisconsin Statute No. 349.16 as follows axle weight limit with one axle limited to six tons and any two axles under eight feet part limited to 10 tons or five tons per axle.

Permits to operate in excess of these limits will be granted for emergency situations only. Overweight/oversize permit can be obtained from the Highway Department in Peshtigo, or downloaded from the website at www.marinettecounty.com/departments/highway/general-information, in the forms and documents link.

School buses, emergency vehicles, milk/seed potato/livestock haulers, perishable food haulers, solid waste haulers collecting residential or commercial waste, leachate removal from Mar-Oco Landfill and septage hauling will be exempt from the road restrictions.

Fuel/gas haulers will be allowed to transport 1/2 of their normal legal loads. However, all carriers are encouraged to suspend operations and contact the Marinette County Highway Department at 715-582-3771 if visible road damage is encountered.
