Amasa man, 71, apparent drowning victim — state police

BARAGA — A 71-year-old Amasa man was the victim of an apparent drowning on Monday on Ned Lake in Baraga County, said Michigan State Police at the Calumet Post.

Troopers responded at about 2 p.m. to the lake in Spurr Township where Gary Stroud apparently fell into the lake and drowned while tending to his boat that was moored near the lake shore.

Stroud was recovered from the water and confirmed deceased, troopers said. His body was transported to Baraga County Memorial Hospital in L’Anse.

Conservation officers from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Bay Ambulance, and first responders from Covington, Michigamme and Spurr townships assisted.
