While several people in the region have shared such bear encounters on social media in the past few weeks, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources has received surprisingly few calls about nuisance animals, said Ryan McGillviray, a wildlife technician at the Crystal Falls office. He speculated residents simply are becoming more savvy on what to do if a bear shows up — remove all potential food sources, such as bird feeders and trash, until the bear stops including the property on its rounds.
