Dickinson County has ninth case of COVID-19

Local health officials have reported a ninth COVID-19 positive in Dickinson County.

The Dickinson-Iron District Health Department posted the new case Saturday afternoon on its Facebook page but provided no other information.

Over the holiday weekend, new cases listed by the state for the Upper Peninsula included five in Houghton and Menominee counties; two in Marquette, Chippewa and Schoolcraft counties; and one in Delta County.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ data site Saturday also had a case in Ontonagon County, which means COVID-19 now has been found in all of Michigan’s counties.

In Wisconsin counties in the region, Vilas County has confirmed its 11th case, a woman in her 60s who health officials say had no known contact with another COVID-19 positive. The Vilas County Public Health Department said she is isolating and they are tracing her contacts to determine how she may have contracted the disease.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Saturday also listed one new case each in Florence, Marinette and Iron counties.

Across the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ data site Sunday listed Keweenaw and Ontonagon counties with one confirmed virus case; Luce County with three confirmed cases; Alger County three confirmed cases and one probable; Baraga County with five confirmed cases; Schoolcraft County with six confirmed cases; Iron County six confirmed cases and one death; Gogebic County seven confirmed cases and a death; Mackinac County nine confirmed cases; Dickinson County nine confirmed cases, one probable and two deaths; Chippewa County 12 confirmed cases and one probable; Houghton County 18 confirmed cases and one probable; Menominee County 21 confirmed cases and one probable; Delta County 23 confirmed cases, four probable and three deaths; and Marquette County 72 confirmed cases, one probable and 11 deaths. State numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports.

The MDHHS also earlier separately had prison inmates as positive in Luce and Chippewa counties.

Using state figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Sunday afternoon had 198 confirmed positives and 18 deaths.

The MDHHS reported 343 confirmed new COVID-19 cases statewide Sunday for a total of 65,876 to date. The state had no new deaths to remain at 5,972 to date.

Dickinson County Healthcare System on Saturday showed four cases from Dickinson County and eight cases from other counties; those counties are not identified. DCHS has tested 1,291 people for COVID-19, with 12 positive, 1,236 negative and 43 results still pending. DCHS noted there are several additional sources of testing in Dickinson County.

For the Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Sunday listed Marinette County with 65 cases and three deaths; Forest County 39 cases and three deaths; Vilas County 10 cases; Iron County eight cases and a death; and Florence County four cases. As with the Michigan data, the state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports.

Wisconsin on Sunday had 522 new cases for a total of 31,577 to date. The state had no new COVID-19 deaths to remain at 796, according to the DHS data site.
