Marinette COVID-19 positives up by 25 cases

IRON MOUNTAIN — Michigan health officials Tuesday reported two new COVID-19 positives in Iron and Menominee counties, while Wisconsin’s virus data site indicated neighboring Marinette County added 25 confirmed cases to push past 250 to date.

According to the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department, Dickinson County as of Tuesday had 42 confirmed COVID-19 positives, with six recovered, two deaths and 34 cases still active. Iron County has 15 positives, with five recovered, one death and nine still active.

Other new positives in the Upper Peninsula on Tuesday, according to the state COVID-19 data site, included three in Houghton County, two each in Delta and Gogebic counties and one each in Marquette, Mackinac and Dickinson counties. The local case already had been reported by the DIDHD on Monday.

In Wisconsin counties in the region, state health officials listed five more positives for Iron County and two more for Vilas County, though the state’s total for that county still did not match the 26 Vilas posted on its Facebook page Monday after adding six new cases.

For the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services data site Tuesday had Keweenaw County with two confirmed virus cases; Ontonagon County with two confirmed cases and one probable; Luce County three confirmed cases; Alger County three confirmed cases and two probable; Baraga County with five confirmed cases; Schoolcraft County with eight confirmed cases; Iron County 15 confirmed cases and one death; Mackinac County 16 confirmed cases and three probable; Chippewa County 20 confirmed cases and seven probable; Houghton County 39 confirmed cases and seven probable; Dickinson County 42 confirmed cases, one probable and two deaths; Delta County 49 confirmed cases, 13 probable and three deaths; Gogebic County 58 confirmed cases, six probable and a death; Menominee County 70 confirmed cases and five probable; and Marquette County 110 confirmed cases, 10 probable and 11 deaths. State numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS also earlier separately had prison inmates as positive in Luce and Chippewa counties.

Using strictly the state figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Tuesday has had 444 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 18 deaths.

The MDHHS reported 669 confirmed new COVID-19 cases in Michigan on Tuesday for a total of 79,176 to date. The state had 16 new deaths Tuesday — including 11 that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS — for total of 6,170.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Tuesday listed Marinette County with 255 cases and three deaths; Iron County 67 cases and one death; Forest County 57 cases and four deaths; Vilas County 22 cases; and Florence County five cases. As with the Michigan data, the state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin reported 762 new cases Tuesday for a total of 50,179 to date, according to the state DHS data site. The state had 13 new COVID-19 deaths Tuesday to reach 906 to date.

Dickinson County Healthcare System as of Tuesday showed 11 cases from Dickinson County and 11 cases from other counties; those counties are not identified. DCHS has tested 2,160 people for COVID-19, with 22 positive, 2,081 negative and 52 results still pending. DCHS noted there are several additional sources of testing in Dickinson County.
