Schenk scholarships awarded

Bryce Smithson

CRYSTAL FALLS — Bryce Smithson and Caitlyn Bloomburg are recipients of the Wilbur and Catherine Schenk Memorial Scholarship at Forest Park High School.

The Schenk Scholarship awards the recipients $1,000 toward a two-year or four-year degree. Students are chosen not only for their academic achievements, but also their participation in varsity sports and extracurricular activities.

Smithson is the son of Lyle and Debbie Smithson of Crystal Falls. He is an honor student and very involved at Forest Park High School. He is the president of the Student Council, National Honor Society, and Business Professionals of America; vice president of his class and involved in Youth Advisory Committee, Spanish Club, marching band and was the DAR Good Citizen Award recipient.

He played football, basketball, and golf. He will be attending Grand Valley State University in the fall pursuing a degree in the health science/pre-med field.

Bloomburg is the daughter of Art and Lisa Bloomburg of Mansfield Township. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, and Youth Advisory Committee and is a top five student in her class.

Caitlyn Bloomburg

Bloomburg has played volleyball, basketball, and golf. She is a member of 4-H and most recently won first place at the state level for her sharpshooter skills.

She enjoys working at Camp Batawagama, loves painting, and spending time with friends. She will be attending the University of Michigan in the fall pursuing a degree in psychology or neuroscience.
