Fireworks injure 5 near Goodman

GOODMAN, Wis. — Five people reportedly were injured, some seriously, in a large firework explosion Friday night at a residence on La Fave Drive near LaFaye Lake in Goodman.

Deputies were called to the residence at 10 p.m. after the firework exploded at ground level, according to Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve.

The fireworks were not part of any professional display but lit by family members, Sauve said.

Five people, including a woman in her 20s and elderly adults in their 70s, were transported to Dickinson County Memorial Hospital for treatment, Sauve said. Several later were transferred to other hospitals, including in Green Bay, Wis.

Sauve declined to provide names or be more specific on who was injured.

“I would certainly urge people to use extreme caution with these,” Sauve said of fireworks. “Every year, someone gets hurt.”

Deputies were assisted by the Goodman-Armstrong Rescue Squad.

Starting at $3.50/week.
