18 days until Christmas

Marguerite Lanthier/Daily News photo

Kingsford will have a tree-lighting event from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the City Hall, with performances by the Kingsford High School band and chorus. Santa and Mrs. Claus will make an appearance in the city council chambers and music will provided by Marc James of Next Myle. Hot cocoa and treats will be served. Members of the city’s Centennial Committee will sell centennial items. Working Tuesday to decorate the tree were, from left, Jennifer Freeman, a city employee who helped organize the event; and Breitung Township Schools students Mabel Irish, 10, Liam Castro-Ray, 7, and Oscar Castro-Ray, 12. The schools made wooden ornaments to hang on the tree and artwork to decorate City Hall. The Daily News will showcase area holiday events and decorations during its Countdown to Christmas.
