The Lagina brothers, stars of “The Curse of Oak Island” on the History Channel, did more than serve as parade marshals Saturday for the Kingsford Centennial.

After the parade, during opening ceremonies at the Lodal Park concert site, Rick Lagina and Marty Lagina announced they would each donate $50,000 for improvements at Ford Addition Park.

Growing up in Kingsford, the park’s city block of tall pines was a boyhood wonderland, they said.

Rick Lagina said the brothers’ search for treasure on Oak Island in Nova Scotia, Canada, has heightened their appreciation for a treasure already known — the people of Kingsford and their enduring goodwill.

Marty Lagina said the true measure of a city is whether it’s the right place to raise a family, a test Kingsford meets exceptionally well. The donation, he said, is meant to preserve the character of the park for a new generation of adventurers and explorers.
