IRON MOUNTAIN — This past October, BOSS Snowplow Giving Committee members organized an internal online company auction to raise money for The United Way of Dickinson County Inc.

In 2022, BOSS Snowplow expanded and remodeled several areas in both the production and office spaces to accommodate the growing company. Alongside the remodel came new office furniture, replacing the old desks, chairs, shelves, and other previously used office furniture.

With the used and unneeded furniture taking up storage space, BOSS Snowplow Giving Committee members met to discuss what to do with the excess furniture.

The committee decided on an online internal auction to support the United Way as part of the Toro-wide United Way drive. The auction was a huge success and raised slightly more than $1,800 for The United Way of Dickinson County.

The committee is a group of nine employees who collectively share a passion for giving back to the community. The mission of the committee is to enrich the lives, the land, the communities and the industries they serve. It comprises a handful of subcommittee members who each serve important aspects of their giving mission.

BOSS Snowplow, a division of The Toro Company, puts an effort into giving back to the community, ranging from monetary donations to annual giving projects to beautify the community and much more in between.

Along with that, BOSS Snowplow and The Toro Company put great efforts into sustainability. The United Way Online Auction used one of the principles of sorting and moving office furniture that was no longer needed, allowing others the opportunity to use the furniture instead of discarding it.

The United Way of Dickinson County is a non-profit agency that helps fund programs and agencies that serve the health and welfare needs of the residents of Dickinson County. Over half the residents have used one or more of the agencies or services.

The campaign for the United Way for 2024 has started, to help fund non-profit agencies that serve the area and residents. The board of directors is made up of local residents. Donations can be made to P.O. Box 429, Iron Mountain, MI 49801. The phone number is 906-221-2174.
