Wisconsin elections in area have few contested seats

Only a couple of local races are contested on Tuesday’s spring election ballot in Florence and northern Marinette counties and several positions have no declared candidates.

The Florence County Board of Supervisors has 12 districts, but the only competition is in the town of Florence’s District 9 where incumbent Board Chair Jeanette Bomberg is challenged by Tom Brandt.

Districts 3, 4 and 8 have no candidates on the ballot. District 3 includes parts of Aurora and Commonwealth, while District 4 is in Commonwealth and District 8 is in Florence.

Unopposed on the ballot are incumbent Sherry Johnson in District 1 in Aurora; incumbent Chad Hedmark in District 2 in Aurora; newcomer Dwaine Drewa in District 5 in Fence and Fern; incumbent Charles Kellstrom in District 6 in Florence; incumbent Joseph Mills in District 7 in Florence; incumbent Matt Brunette in District 10 in Homestead; incumbent Fran Modschiedler in District 11 in Florence, Long Lake and Tipler; and newcomer Chase C. Erickson in District 12 in Florence.

Board incumbents who did not file for reelection were Jason Neuens in District 3, Gary Steber in District 4, Rich Wolosyn in District 5, Edwin Kelley in District 8 and Susan Theer in District 12.

In the Niagara School Board election, four candidates are seeking three seats. Incumbents Teresa Clement and Karie A. Curran face challengers Ben Hanson and Brock Payette. Julie Neuens, a board incumbent, did not seek re-election.

In Marinette County, there is no competition for county board supervisor positions in the four northern districts. The candidates are incumbent Roger Allen of Niagara in District 1, newcomer Melanie Olson of Niagara in District 2, incumbent Bill Stankevich of Goodman in District 3 and incumbent Ken Hanson of Pembine in District 4. Incumbent Al Sauld did not seek reelection in District 2.

Only two candidates are on the ballot for three seats on the Florence County Board of Education — incumbents Ronald Yadro and Amber Neuens. Incumbent Mike Theis, whose term expires, is not on the ballot.

Elsewhere, incumbents without opposition Tuesday include:

— Niagara City Council: Dan Decker, Lisa Mattia Johnson and Glenn Lantagne.

— Niagara Municipal Judge: Tracy L. Daun.

— Goodman-Armstrong Creek School Board: Debbie Thompson.

— Beecher-Dunbar-Pembine School Board: Vicki Fick and Brian Parr.
