The fire danger is high locally as dry, windy and warm conditions persist and the public is asked to avoid all outdoor burning, authorities said.

On Saturday, 37 fires burned over 300 acres in Wisconsin, the single most active wildfire day so far this year, the Department of Natural Resources said.

“On windy, dry days, embers from any fire, especially burn piles and campfires, can easily get out of control and cause a wildfire if not properly extinguished,” the DNR said in a news release. “Please avoid all burning until conditions improve.”

Outdoor recreators should also be careful with off-road vehicles or other equipment that can create sparks and start a fire.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources on Sunday prohibited open debris burning in Dickinson, Iron and Menominee counties.

The next chance for rain is Tuesday afternoon, with showers then likely on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.
