Escanaba recall election certified after dispute

ESCANABA — The Delta County Board of Canvassers late Friday afternoon certified the results of the May 7 recall election for the county board of commissioners.

The certification was made at a special meeting of the board of canvassers. The board had previously failed to certify the election Tuesday, after two people on the four-person board voted against certification, citing the similarity of vote percentages across all three races.

According to the election results, challengers Kelli Van Ginhoven and Matt Jensen each received 72% of the vote in their respective races, to incumbent commissioners Dave Moyle’s and Bob Petersen’s 27%. In the race between challenger Myra Croasdell and Incumbent Commissioner Bob Barron, the percentages were 73% and 26%, respectively.

A swearing-in ceremony for the new commissioners has been scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday.
