KINGSFORD — Breitung Township Schools received a generous gift from the Zanardi family earlier this year and now the portion of the funds that were allocated for scholarships have been awarded to graduating seniors.

Five $5,000 scholarships were awarded to the Kingsford High School Class of 2024.

John and Frances Zanardi started their family in Iron Mountain. John earned his undergraduate degree from Ferris State University and completed his graduate coursework at the University of Detroit. He then opened a private law practice in town and eventually served as Dickinson County prosecutor.

Frances earned her degree in business from Ferris State University and intended to become a teacher. Then the Zanardis had three children, whom Frances took care of in the home. All three children graduated from Iron Mountain Schools.
