NIAGARA, Wis. — The annual Niagara Lions Club Community Picnic is set for Friday and Saturday at Heights Park in Niagara, offering food, live music, games, royalty and a parade.
“We hope for good weather and that everyone will show up,” said Dan Decker, club treasurer.
The event opens at 4 p.m. Friday with food and beverage tents available. A bean bag tournament starts at 5:30 p.m., with the first 40 two-person teams able to compete. Registration is from 4 to 5 p.m.
Music begins at 7 p.m. with The Big Bad out of Florida. The duo features Kitt Lange, a 1992 graduate of Niagara High School, and Corrin Ella Scott. They play a variety of music ranging from Frank Sinatra to Lady Gaga and Barbra Streisand to Bruno Mars. Decker said they are on tour and have played in several local venues. They were recommended by local snowbirds who saw them in Florida this past winter.
The park, along with the food and beverage tents, will open at 1 p.m. Saturday. With a $10 bracelet, children can play on a four-in-one bounce house, a three-in-one bounce house and tractor obstacle course.
The parade starts at 2 p.m. Those who wish to be in the parade should go about 1:30 p.m. to the corner of Jefferson and Scott streets. Volunteers will be on site to help parade entries get lined up, Decker said.
The Miss Niagara coronations takes place at 3 p.m., where Mallory Sanicki will receive her crown from Justine Geldmeyer, the 2023 Miss Niagara. Members of Sanicki’s court are Raegan Frappier, Rachael Walker, Annalee White and Elesia Sweig.
At 4 p.m. Niagara First Lady and Mr. Niagara will be named. Voting is open until Friday. Each vote costs $1 and can be done at Forward Financial Credit Union or Nicolet National Bank in Niagara.
The bean bag tournament starts at 4:30 p.m. in the park.
The annual fireworks show will begin just after dark in the park.
The local variety rock band The Descendants will perform starting at 7 p.m. and resume after the fireworks show.
The park closes at 11:30 p.m. both days.
Tickets to support the fireworks and the picnic are $10 for one ticket or three for $20. They are available at many local businesses. The event will feature 18 cash prizes, with additional raffle drawings throughout the day Saturday.
