Program set in Florence

FLORENCE, Wis. — The next outdoor education program will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the lower level conference room at the Florence Natural Resource Center building, on the corner of U.S. 2 and Highway 101/70.

Greg Matzke, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, senior fisheries biologist, will discuss walleye management in Florence and Forest counties. Abundant walleye populations are becoming less common, and walleye can also be difficult to catch, but managing walleye is harder than catching them, according to Matzke.

“Unfortunately, in many places this is the truth. We have tried many new techniques to create quality walleye fisheries in Florence and Forest counties. Some have worked … and some have not,” he said.

During this presentation he will walk through all of the major walleye populations in these two counties, discuss how is each population doing, what management strategies they are using and what the future looks like for these fisheries.

The public may attend in person, or sign up to attend virtually via a TEAMS link by registering at www.ExploreFlorenceCounty.com. On the Events page click on this event and then click on “Register here to attend via Teams link.”
