IM faces lawsuit in fatal crash in 2022
IRON MOUNTAIN — A pre-trial conference is scheduled for July 9 in Dickinson County Circuit Court in a lawsuit filed against the city of Iron Mountain in a 2022 fatal traffic crash.
Matthew Fletcher, 34, of Iron Mountain was killed Aug. 30, 2022, when the motorcycle he was operating collided with a city public works mower at the intersection of Lake Antoine Road and East Grand Boulevard, according to a Michigan State Police report. The mower, operated by a city employee, was crossing the roadway.
Troopers said they were dispatched to the crash at 3:43 p.m. Their report indicated the motorcycle was traveling at a high speed and Fletcher was wearing a helmet. The city employee was reported as uninjured.
The plaintiff is Carly Fletcher, personal representative of Matthew Fletcher’s estate. She is represented by attorney Stanley Feldman of Farmington.
The city’s attorney is Gregory Grant of Traverse City. The case is being heard by Judge Mary Barglind.
Iron Mountain City Council met in a closed session Monday to discuss trial and/or settlement strategy in the lawsuit.
