Bay College plant sale planned Friday
ESCANABA — For one day only, the Bay College Escanaba greenhouse on Friday will be selling native plant seedlings and vegetable starts.
Proceeds support the continuing operation of the greenhouse and plant donations to various community groups and projects.
The sale will include a selection of native wildflowers, perennials, tomatoes, peppers and herbs.
Pricing starts at $25 per flat — mix and match — and $1 per individually potted plant.
The Bay College Greenhouse is committed to providing a local source of native plants for area gardeners interested in local flora. Native plants are adapted to local conditions and have natural defenses to diseases and insect pests.
More importantly, they provide habitat and food for butterflies, hummingbirds, songbirds and beneficial insects.
Once established, native plants require little care or supplemental watering.
The sale is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern time Friday at the greenhouse and biology lab, room 116 in the Math Science Building on the Bay College Escanaba campus.
