Election integrity group salutes Dickinson clerk

IRON MOUNTAIN — Dickinson County Clerk-Register of Deeds Carol Bronzyk is the recipient of the Sunlight Award presented by the Michigan Fair Elections Institute.

The award recognizes elections clerks for their “outstanding dedication and exemplary service in responding to citizens’ requests for information about elections with speed, accuracy, and professionalism.”

MFEI said that Bronzyk was among 18 Michigan clerks who responded in five or fewer business days to a Freedom of Information Act request for election data from the November 2024 general election. Only 22% of Michigan’s 83 county clerks provided the information in such a timely manner.

The 18 clerks qualifying for the award met all three of these criteria:

— Willingness to provide the information. Some clerks denied the request.

— Not charging for the information.

— Providing the data within five business days.

MFEI consists of grassroots organizations and groups whose goal is to support free and fair elections in Michigan. Bronzyk’s work strengthens public trust in the democratic process and upholds the highest standards of civic duty, MFEI said.

Starting at $3.50/week.
