Air quality, fire warnings in UP
More than 25,000 residents in three provinces of Canada have been evacuated as dozens of wildfires diminished air quality in parts of Canada and the U.S., including the Upper Peninsula.
The National Weather Service issued an air quality advisory today for Dickinson and Iron counties. Elevated levels of fine particulates were expected to be in the “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” range.
Meanwhile, hot dry and breezy weather was expected to lead to critical fire conditions across the western U.P. today. In issuing a red flag warning, NWS predicted an ideal environment for rapid fire growth and spread.
The fire warning, which included Dickinson and Iron counties, was effective from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. today.
