Former cop in Norway accused of misconduct
LANSING — A Vulcan man has been accused of misconduct as a Norway Police officer, including having improper contact with women using personal information taken from police databases, according to the Michigan attorney general’s office.
Chad Olson, 43, was arraigned Wednesday in the 95B District Court in Iron Mountain on felony and misdemeanor charges stemming from his time as a law enforcement officer until Dec. 20, 2024, state Attorney General Dana Nessel announced.
Olson allegedly used the personal contact information “to flirt and curry favor with the women, which led to one sexual encounter with a woman while on duty in the police station,” a news release from the AG’s office states.
After resigning from the Norway Police Department, Olson is accused of illegally purchasing a pistol without a license, using his MCOLES number when he no longer had any police authority.
Olson is charged with —
— Two counts of misconduct in office, each a five-year felony. One count pertains to malfeasance, involving the alleged sexual conduct while on duty. The second count involves misfeasance, involving the alleged misuse of law enforcement resources;
— One count of pistols — false statement on sales record, a 4-year felony; and
— One count of purchasing a pistol without a license, a 90-day misdemeanor.
The case was referred to the Department of Attorney General by the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department and the Michigan State Police.
Olson will next appear in the 95B District Court before Judge Julie LaCost on June 26.
