Schalow arraigned on malicious destruction and resisting charges

IRON MOUNTAIN — A Green Bay, Wis., man is accused of causing damage to two area hotels and resisting police officers back in May.

Joseph Tab Schalow, 26, has pleaded not guilty in Dickinson County Circuit Court to the felony charges of malicious destruction of building – $1,000 or more but less than $20,000, malicious destruction of building $200 or more but less than $1,000, two counts police officer – assaulting/resisting/obstructing and a misdemeanor charge of fire – false alarm. In addition Schalow is charged with being a habitual offender.

According to the criminal complaint, Schalow on May 2 destroyed property at the Budget Host Inn, including two windows. After the police arrived, Schalow fled to the Comfort Inn, where he pulled the fire alarm, ripped the alarm from the wall and caused other damage to the building. He resisted commands of law enforcement at both properties and when placed under arrest at Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson verbally and physically opposed commands of an officer.

Schalow is free after posting $1,000 of a $10,000 bond. A pretrial conference is set for July 7.
