Three injured in Manistique crash

MANISTIQUE — Three people were injured, one seriously, when two vehicles collided head-on Wednesday in Manistique.

The crash was reported about 11:39 a.m. Wednesday on U.S. 2 near Chippewa Avenue in Manistique, according to Manistique Public Safety.

An initial investigation found a 2017 Toyota Camry being driven by a 75-year-old woman from Alanson, Mich., turned into the path of a 2024 Toyota Venza being driven west on U.S. 2 by a 49-year-old Garden woman.

Manistique EMS transported three people — the two drivers and a 14-year-old who was a front-seat passenger in the Venza — to Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital.

The 75-year-old was later transferred by Manistique EMS to UP Health Systems Marquette with life-threatening injuries. Both the driver and passenger of the Venza were released from Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation remains ongoing by the Manistique Public Safety Department. Also responding to the crash were Michigan State Police, Schoolcraft County Sheriff’s Department, Sault Tribe Police Department and Manistique EMS.
