HOUGHTON — Two people were found dead late Sunday afternoon at a remote backcountry campground in Isle Royale National Park, officials said.

Two rangers hiked overnight 11 miles to the campground to assess the situation, confirming the deaths early Monday, according to a news release from Isle Royale National Park. Additional ground and aviation resources were brought in Monday morning.

The cause of death is unknown at this time. No further information on the two people was provided and the incident remains under investigation, with more to be released when available, according to the news release.
